Clovis, Calif. (April 8, 2014) — Students at the ITT Technical Institute campus in Clovis, California recently joined GRID Alternatives, a non-profit solar installation organization, for a training session on campus. With more than 15,000 volunteers and job trainees across California and Colorado, GRID Alternatives organizes teams to install money-saving solar electric systems for low income homeowners.
As part of their required Student Professional Experience, ITT Tech students receive hands-on experience in their program of study by volunteering with local companies and nonprofit organizations. Students in the Electrical Engineering Technology and Drafting and Design Technology programs volunteered with GRID Alternatives to participate in installations and gain valuable experience in the growing solar industry.
Julian Cortez, an ITT Tech student, expressed excitement about the experience, "The supervisors at GRID Alternatives allowed us to do everything since we already had electrical training. We hooked up all of the electrical wires to the main electrical panel for the house. It was really cool."
