CARMEL, Ind. (July 13, 2009) _ ITT Technical Institute will undergo a visit September 14-17, 2009, by a team representing The
Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools ("HLC"). The visit is in conjunction with
the HLC's comprehensive evaluation of ITT Technical Institute for initial accreditation or candidacy by the HLC. ITT
Technical Institute is not currently accredited by the HLC.
The HLC is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provides institutional accreditation on a regional basis.
Institutional accreditation evaluates an entire institution and accredits it as a whole. Other agencies provide accreditation
for specific programs. Accreditation is voluntary. The HLC accredits institutions of higher education in a nineteen-state
region. The HLC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
For over a year, ITT Technical Institute has been engaged in a process of self-study, addressing the HLC's requirements and
criteria for accreditation. The evaluation team will gather evidence that the self-study is thorough and accurate. The
evaluation team will recommend to the HLC a status for ITT Technical Institute. Following a review process, the HLC will make
a determination regarding ITT Technical Institute's accreditation or candidacy by the HLC.
