What can I expect?
ITT Tech online courses consist of six or twelve, one-week modules that are delivered online with an instructor who leads a group of students through the course content. The instructor posts lessons and information, facilitates discussions and assigns projects for completion. Courses begin and end at designated dates and times, and there are deadlines for assignments and exams. Within this structure, you can access the course at any time to complete your work. The course is taken completely online.
ITT Tech's online courses feature the following:
Text-based lecture material, including graphics, PowerPoint slides and other formats.
On-line assessments with feedback.
Group-based discussions, using message boards on which you can post and respond to messages.
Textbooks, CD-ROMs and other materials delivered by regular mail when you become registered.
Access to instructor and student e-mail addresses for private discussions.
Why take courses online?
On-campus, traditional courses do not meet the needs of all students. Some people, due to work schedules, family or other commitments, can be better served by alternatives like online education.
ITT Tech's online courses offer the following benefits:
Access is available 24 hours a day, seven days per week. You can participate at times convenient for you.
You can participate anywhere you have a computer with access to the Internet at home, at work or on the move.
You can avoid scheduling conflicts associated with traditional courses.
An opportunity to study technologies used in industry.
An opportunity to develop motivation and goal-setting skills.
An opportunity to take a course you might not otherwise have access to.
Are ITT Techs accredited?
The ITT Technical Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), which is an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Are online courses easier than resident courses?
Course requirements for online courses are academically equivalent to the courses taught on campus. The primary difference is that you will not see your instructor and classmates face to face. You are responsible for logging into the course, following instructions and completing the work that is assigned. Although online learning takes motivation, ITT Technical Institute has structured its online courses to help you work toward your degree. Instructors monitor your participation in the online classroom just as they would in the regular classroom.
How do ITT Tech online courses differ from other online courses?
Some online education courses are completely self-guided. Participants enroll at any time and learn the material on their own with tutors who are available to answer questions that may arise. We have found that providing students with a firm schedule while allowing them to complete their work whenever they wish within that schedule is a better method. That is why at an ITT Technical Institute you will be involved in a regular course of a set duration with specific assignments and due dates. Manageable class sizes, and skilled online instructors guide students and offer personal attention, from answering questions to giving feedback on a student's work. In addition, you will be enrolled with other students who are progressing through the course at the same time, allowing you to interact with your peers.
How much time does it take?
You will generally be expected to spend between 12 and 15 hours per week for each four credit hour course. You can access courses on the days and times that best suit your schedule. To keep up with the class assignments, it is generally best to log into the course at least once per day, at least five days per week. Your participation is monitored and contributes toward your final grade.
Most six-week courses are four credit hours. To graduate from the Technical Project Management for Electronic Commerce bachelor's degree program of study, you must satisfy all of the graduation requirements.
Will I have an instructor?
Yes. Instructors are essential to online learning at ITT Technical Institute. All instructors have training to teach online or have experience teaching online. They lead the courses and function as facilitators, coaches and tutors. In the online setting, instructors devote as much time to communicating with the class as they do in the traditional classroom. They log on regularly to respond to questions, direct discussion and evaluate assignments.
Will I interact with other students?
Yes. You will interact in your courses with other students who are studying right along with you. Through online discussions, e-mail and other group activities, you can develop an electronic peer network, and participate in discussion forums and online study groups. Although you may never see each other face-to-face, you establish a group of colleagues.
Is this really a good way to learn?
Many studies have found that online learning can be as effective as traditional classroom learning. On-line learning allows you to study at a time and place suited to you and still allows you the opportunity to interact with instructors as well as other students.
What if I have questions?
As an online student, you have access to many resources for help. Technical support is available by phone 18 hours a day, six days a week. Instructors are reachable by e-mail and telephone as well as during online office hours at specific times for questions about the course material, assignments and tests. Questions about enrollment, financial aid and other administrative matters can be answered by visiting this website.
